Where You Can Get Help If You're Facing Repossession
If you are facing the prospect of repossession then you are probably quite scared. You may well feel as if there is no help out there, that you are completely on your own and in itself that is a scary feeling, without the prospect of losing your home. But rest assured, help is out there; you just need to know where to find it.
CAB
You may not have thought of going to your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau to ask them for help; but they will be able to give you advice and also help you to look at your financial situation in detail and then come up with a plan, or a rescue package if you like. This will detail just how much you can afford to repay and outline the timescale involved. The CAB will usually contact the people to whom you owe money and help you to sort out a schedule for paying back the monies that you owe.
Free Debt Advice
Lots of debt companies are able to offer you free debt advice. They do so with the hope that you may use their services, but you are under no obligation to do so. They will offer you advice about issues that you may wish to consider, such as debt consolidation or an IVA, where you make an agreement with your creditors, to ensure that you can pay some money back, but they will write off some of the money that you owe. If your debts include mortgage arrears, which has led to you facing repossession, then consolidating your debts or entering into an IVA will possibly help you stave off the repossession.
Local Councils
Local councils are responsible for the Government’s Mortgage Rescue Scheme and this scheme can really help you stop a repossession, but you do need to have someone in your household who has a ‘priority need’ which means that you need someone who is either a child, disabled or elderly. However it is worth talking to your local council to see if you qualify for help under the Mortgage Rescue Scheme.
Quick Sale Companies
There are companies out there who will buy your home very quickly. This means that your home is not repossessed, but it is sold, usually for slightly less than you may have hoped for, but it is sold and because you realise the sale, you can then pay off your mortgage or a good deal of your mortgage. You can then move on and either buy somewhere smaller or for a lower price, or you can rent, to ensure that you don’t incur any more problems in terms of your mortgage.
There IS Help Out There
The moral of the tale is that there is help out there and you should not feel isolated and alone. You have to ask for help, but once you have asked for it you will find that there are lots of agencies to help. So don’t suffer in silence; get help today and stop that repossession!
